Power Service Products is taking its competitive diesel racing commitment to a new level: the National Hot Rod Association (“NHRA”).
For nine years, Power Service has sponsored racer John Robinson and the Power Service Diesel Funny Car, the first of its kind to compete in National Hot Rod Diesel Association (NHRDA) events. Now Robinson has added an altered body to the existing chassis and is now able to meet the requirements of the NHRA Top Dragster class, second only to NASCAR in terms of motorsports attendance and popularity.
“We love high-speed diesel drag racing,” said Ed Kramer, president and owner of Power Service Products. “Our Diesel Kleen® +Cetane Boost® product is all about improvingdiesel engine performance, and nowhere is that more evident than right on the drag strip. We’re ready to show even more fans what a diesel engine can do.
”Robinson’s Diesel Powered Altered car will use an aluminum block Cummins-based engine providing over 2,500 horsepower. The altered body is 200 pounds lighter than the Funny Car shell, which should mean faster race times – the car runs in the sixes at over 200 MPH. With this much power, a world record – in NHRA classes like Top Dragster Altered Fuel Funny Car – is attainable.
“The new Power Service Diesel Altered Car is ready to race,” said Robinson. “The body graphics are done, we have tested and shaken the car down, and our trial runs are going as planned.”Robinson said the frame design of the Funny Car will allow fast change-outs between the Altered and Funny Car bodies; he may even be able to compete in two separate events on the same day at some of the “outlaw” events he attends.
